We are seeking a Police Sergeant!!


The Jerome Police Department is accepting applications for the position of Police Sergeant. Officer applicants must be Arizona P.O.S.T. certified or able to meet AZPOST waiver requirements. The Jerome Police Department is accepting applications for the position until May 10, 2012.

Job Description: Investigates accidents, incidents and offenses and prepares appropriate reports. Regulates traffic and parking to maintain orderly flow. Enforces motor vehicle rules & regulations. Serves as Senior Patrol Officer. Supervises traffic control, accident investigations, patrol and emergency conditions. This position is primarily a day shift, Monday through Thursday. Although this schedule can change to provide coverage as needed for vacations and special events. Jerome, AZ is a small town located in the mountains of northern Arizona. With a resident population of about 400, it is a major tourist destination with an estimated 1,000,000 visitors annually.
Additional Information: Working knowledge of the modern practices and techniques of law enforcement, patrol, investigation, public relations, and report writing; Vehicle and Penal Codes; laws of arrest; rules of evidence; legal rights of citizens; court procedures. Skill in physical agility and demonstrated competency in the use of firearms. Ability to read, understand, and apply laws, regulations, and department policy, rules and procedures; think clearly and act effectively in emergency situations; observe and recall names, faces, and details of incident; understand and follow verbal and written directions; interact with community members, conduct neighborhood meetings and help solve community problems; write clear concise, and accurate reports; use and care for small firearms and other equipment; communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing; establish and maintain cooperative working relationships; establish and maintain effective relationships with the public; maintain range qualifications and other law enforcement skills.
Job Requirements: Age 21 Education High School, college given pref. Experience min 5 years as municipal police officer Additional Requirements Possession of a valid State of Arizona drivers license and a satisfactory driving record. Possession of, or ability to obtain prior to appointment, certification as a peace officer by Arizona Peace Officer Standards and Training. Physical Condition: As determined appropriate to perform police work by the city's examining physician. A minimum of five years of experience as a municipal police officer. A Note Here: In speaking with the chief, he made clear that lateral applicants from other states are welcome to apply. They will need to pass the AZ. P.O.S.T. waiver examination within 90 days of hire. Please check AZPOST website for minimum requirements for waiver applicants. All candidates will be required to take personality profile testing, a sergeants test, grammar test, polygraph, oral board, physical and Police Officer Physical Ability Test (POPAT). Testing is expected to take place the third week in June. Start date is anticipated to be August 1, 2012
